Clear Breakdown of Trial Deposits and Payment Terms
One trial fee covers delivery and collection. Add a refundable deposit and that is everything you pay to try it.
How the trial fee works.
The trial fee is what you pay to take an item on trial.
Every trial is four weeks, whatever the item and whatever it costs. Your four weeks start the day it arrives, not the day you order.
Both directions are covered by the trial fee. There is nothing further to pay to get an item to you or to send it back.
The deposit.
You pay it at checkout along with the trial fee. It is refundable: if you send the item back, the deposit is returned to you once the item has been received and checked.
If you keep the item, the deposit is not refunded separately. It is credited in full against the purchase price instead.
Keep it or return it.
If you keep it
Both of them come off the price. The trial fee and the deposit are credited in full against the purchase price, and you pay the balance.
If you send it back
The deposit is refunded to you once the item has been received and checked. The trial fee is not refunded. It is what you paid to have the item at home for four weeks, and that is what it covered.
What it costs.
A worked example.

Orange Amps TH30
£899.00 retail price
| For a product priced at £899.00 | Amount |
|---|---|
| Trial fee | £54.00 |
| Refundable deposit | £90.00 |
| Total paid today | £144.00 |
| Remaining balance if kept | £755.00 |
| Deposit refunded if returned | £90.00 |
Keep it and the £144.00 already paid is deducted from the £899.00 price. Return it and the £90.00 deposit is refunded; the £54.00 trial fee covers the trial, delivery and return.
Common questions.
- What do I pay at checkout?
- Two things: the trial fee, and the refundable deposit. Nothing else is taken at checkout. You are not paying for the item at this point, and you are under no obligation to buy it.
- Am I committed to buying?
- No. Returning an item is the ordinary outcome of a trial. You do not need to give a reason.
- What do I pay to keep it?
- The balance of the price, after the trial fee and the deposit are both credited in full.
- What does it cost to return?
- Nothing. Book a collection or a parcel-shop drop-off from your account; the trial fee covered both directions.
- When do I get my deposit back?
- Within 3 days of it going back. We contact you first if we ever think a deduction is warranted.
- What if I break it?
- Tell us as soon as you can and return it as normal. Damage beyond ordinary use may be deducted from your deposit, and we will always show you what we have found before deducting anything.
