Trial terms
The agreement between you and us for the period an item is in your home. Buying it later is a separate agreement — see the terms of sale.

1. This agreement
This is an agreement between you and Renticy Limited, trading as trialcove.com, company number 15587682, registered at Stafford Education & Enterprise Park, Weston Road, Stafford, ST18 0BF, United Kingdom.
It covers the trial only: the period during which you have the item but have not bought it. It gives you the right to possess and use the item for the trial period. It does not transfer ownership, and it does not commit you to buying anything.
If you choose to buy the item at the end, that is a separate contract of sale governed by our terms of sale.
2. Starting a trial
A trial begins when the item is delivered to you, not when you place the order or when we take payment. Time in transit does not count towards the trial period.
The trial period is four weeks, as shown on the listing. It cannot be varied by you at the point of ordering.
You must be 18 or over, resident in the United Kingdom, and the delivery address must be one we serve.
3. What you pay
Two amounts are taken when you start a trial:
- The trial fee, 8% of the item’s retail price. This is consideration for the trial itself and covers delivery to you and collection at the end. It is not refundable if you simply decide not to buy.
- The deposit, 10% of the item’s retail price. It is held as security for the return of the item and remains your money throughout.
Both are calculated on the retail price of the item, irrespective of the grade you select.
4. The deposit
Your deposit is released as soon as the item goes back, and refunded in full within 3 days. You will get an email confirming the refund.
We may make a deduction only where the item is returned with damage as described in clause 6, with parts missing, or not at all. Before deducting anything we will contact you, describe what we have found with evidence, and give you a reasonable opportunity to respond. We will not make a deduction without doing so.
Any deduction will be no more than the loss we have actually suffered.
5. Using the item
During the trial the item remains our property. You agree to:
- Use it normally, for its ordinary domestic purpose, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Keep it at the delivery address unless it is something plainly meant to be taken out, such as a bicycle or a camera.
- Not sell, lend, pledge, modify or dismantle it.
- Keep it insured only to the extent your normal home contents policy would — you are not required to buy separate insurance.
- Let us know promptly if it is lost, stolen or seriously damaged.
Ordinary use is expected. Marks and wear consistent with genuinely using the item for the trial period are not chargeable — an item you were afraid to touch would defeat the point.
6. Damage
You are responsible for damage to the item during the trial, beyond the marks and wear described in clause 5.
That includes:
- Accidental damage.
- Deliberate damage.
- Loss or theft where you have not taken reasonable care.
- Damage caused by using the item other than as intended, or against the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Missing accessories, cables or parts.
Where the item is damaged, our claim is limited to the reasonable cost of repair or, where repair is not economic, the value of the item at its grade.
7. Ending the trial
At the end of the trial period you must either:
- Tell us you wish to buy the item and pay the balance; or
- Return it by booking a collection from your address, or a drop-off at a parcel shop, using the label we supply.
You may end the trial early at any time by returning the item. The trial fee is not apportioned or refunded for the unused period, because the costs it covers have already been incurred.
We will remind you before the trial period ends.
8. If you buy it
Choosing to buy is entirely at your option. There is no obligation to buy, and we will never treat a return as a default.
The purchase price is the price for the grade you selected. The trial fee and the deposit are both credited against it, so you pay only the balance. The sale is governed by our terms of sale and title passes to you on payment in full.
9. Late returns
If an item is not returned and not purchased by the end of the trial period, we will contact you. We will not immediately charge you or treat the item as sold.
If, after we have contacted you and allowed a reasonable further period, the item is neither returned nor paid for, we may retain the deposit and charge the outstanding balance for the item. We will tell you clearly before doing so.
10. Cancelling
Separately from this agreement you have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of delivery under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
That right runs alongside the trial and is not replaced or reduced by it. If you cancel under those regulations we refund everything you have paid, including the trial fee. See returns and refunds.
11. Liability
Nothing in this agreement limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected.
Subject to that, we are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when this agreement was made.
12. Law
This agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your own courts.
If something goes wrong, see making a complaint.
