try it. love it. keep it.

Nobody should have to guess.

Online shopping asks you to commit to something you have never touched, on the strength of a photograph and a review written by a stranger with a different kitchen. We think that is the wrong way round. So we moved the decision to the end.

Saying no should not feel like failing.

Most shops make changing your mind faintly shameful. Restocking fees, narrow windows, a form asking you to pick a reason from a list. All of it aimed at the moment you worked out the thing was not right for you.

But nothing went wrong at that moment. It went wrong at the checkout, where you were asked to decide with almost nothing to go on. A showroom cannot tell you whether you will really use a bean-to-cup machine on a Tuesday morning. No amount of reading tells you whether a saddle suits you at mile forty.

A trial gives you the only thing that answers those questions: a few weeks of ordinary life with the thing in it. If you send it back, nothing has gone wrong. That was the trial working.

What we will always do.

Not values. Commitments, written where you can hold us to them.

  • Return your deposit quickly

Your deposit is released as soon as the item goes back, and refunded within 3 days. It is your money, and it should not sit anywhere while somebody gets round to it.

  • Describe condition honestly

If an item has a scratch, the listing says so. We would rather lose a sale than have you open a box and feel misled.

  • Never make a silent deduction

If we think something came back damaged, we contact you first, show you what we found, and let you respond.

  • Make returning easy

The label is already in the box. A return that was difficult would win us one sale and lose us a customer.

How we make money.

We would rather say this plainly than have you wonder where the catch is.

The trial fee covers the round trip — delivery, collection, and cover for the accidents that happen when something is genuinely being used — and leaves a small margin. If you send the item back, that fee is what we earned. It is precisely why we can afford for you to say no.

If you keep it, we make a margin on the sale like any other retailer. The fee and the deposit both count towards the price, so keeping something never costs more than buying it outright would have.

The only place worth testing something is the place you will use it.

  • In your kitchen.

Whether the coffee machine earns its worktop space on a weekday morning, and whether you can actually be bothered to clean it.

  • On your hills.

Whether the bike suits your legs on the climb you ride every week, not a smooth showroom floor.

  • In your routine.

Whether the treadmill gets used in February, or quietly becomes somewhere to hang the washing.

  • With your family.

Whether the pushchair folds one-handed while you are holding a child and the rain has started.

  • In your rooms.

Whether the air purifier is quiet enough to sleep through, which no specification will ever tell you.

  • At your own pace.

Weeks, not the ten minutes a shop gives you before someone asks whether you need any help.

Who you are buying from.

trialcove is a marketplace. Retailers and brands list their items here, and we run the trial around them — the fee, the deposit, the delivery, the collection and the cover. We do not hold a warehouse of our own.

What we do insist on is how things are described. Every listing states its grade before you commit, whether it is brand new, refurbished or pre-used, and the price reflects it. A seller who describes items badly does not stay on the marketplace. How we grade everything

try it. love it. keep it.

Use it at home for the full trial period, then decide. Keep it and what you have already paid comes off the price.
